Can a cardiac arrest before 50 be avoided ?

Can a cardiac arrest before 50 be avoided?

I don’t know the answer. But I have started asking myself a different question:

Can I do more to understand and protect my body before I push it?

I started gymming after doing Yoga for quite some time. My endocrinologist suggested strength training because building muscle is particularly important for people managing diabetes and, frankly, for all of us as we grow older.

But the moment I started going to the gym, the questions people asked

“Ironman?”

“Hyrox?”

“Marathon?”

Apparently, being healthy is no longer a sufficient reason to exercise.

Somehow, we have started measuring fitness through medals, finish lines, photographs and Instagram posts.

For me, the goal is much simpler: I want to stay fit and healthy.

Especially after 40, I believe we need to respect the body a little more. What we could do at 25 may not be what our body is ready for at 50. Excessive loading, sudden intensity or ignoring warning signs can have consequences we cannot see from the outside.

And there is another part we often forget: preventive health.

A person can look extremely fit and still have an underlying issue. Family history, silent conditions, lack of sleep, stress and other risk factors don't always announce themselves before something goes wrong.

So perhaps before asking, “What event are you training for?”, I should ask:

“Why am I training?”

My answer is simple.

To build strength.

To stay healthy.

To age better.

And to keep doing it consistently without trying to prove anything to anyone.
